Reflections won a silver medal in the black-and-white photography category at the St. Louis VA Medical Center arts competition. The photograph of the lakeside snowy egret was taken by Army/Air Force veteran Robert Moritz of Wright City, Missouri.
"[Photography] is a hobby that keeps me busy," said Moritz. "I’m a 100% disabled veteran."
Moritz discovered a passion for photography while working in a photo laboratory in Germany in 1977. Despite being self-taught, he is experienced in all aspects of photography from picture development to framing.
Reflections is one of five pieces to be featured on the cover of JRRD in 2012. The piece was chosen from hundreds of entries in local VA creative arts competitions. The journal staff selected 18 entries and forwarded them to the JRRD Editorial Board for final selection.
"After all these years of competing and finally making it—it feels great," said Moritz. "Years and years of work finally paid off."Back to Artwork Gallery
