Format of the Day

The morning session consisted of 10-minute slide presentations on 10 topics, with each speaker having a different area of expertise in ongoing or potential prosthetics research. The presentations were intended to give an overview of current "best practices" as well as emerging technologies. Each was followed by a brief question-and-answer period.

The afternoon featured a guided discussion of potential areas for prosthetics research. Ideas and suggestions were elicited according to three main categories: (1) amputation management, trauma, and tissue repair; (2) technology and devices; and (3) service delivery. Ideas were consolidated into major themes and subcategories to allow development of specific requests for proposals focused on prosthetics.

These proceedings include edited and abstracted material from the original presentations.
